Character Analysis
Performance as survival
Akechi's public self is his armor. The polite voice, the camera-ready smile, the perfect grades, the detective persona: all of it is a version of himself designed to be valuable enough, so that someone will finally look at him.
Rivalry as recognition
His relationship with Joker matters because Joker sees through the mask without looking away. Their rivalry gives Akechi something he cannot get from fame: a witness. Someone who knows what he is and still treats him as a person.
Truth over comfort
Third semester Akechi is compelling because he would rather live with an ugly truth than accept a beautiful lie. That choice makes him seem harsh, but in reality he's just painfully honest.
